I've heard it once said that the only person who reads the directors notes are the director and the reviewers. Lovely, kind, gracious reviewers. While I'm sure that isn't so, it's always something that sticks in my mind as I write. I could use these notes to explain the finer details of Bipolar Disorder I and II and its affects on the loved ones on those afflicted. I could use these notes to wax poetic on the impact of the pharmaceutical industry on our society. I could use these notes to expound upon my directorial vision for this production. I could. But I won't. I'm a firm believer in the work speaking for itself. Just know that hours of research, play, and discovery has gone into finding the world of this play and the lives of those who inhabit it. What you're about to see is a story from the annals of suburbia, that may hit too close to home. It should. If we've done our jobs. It's been a fantastic process filled with fantastic triumphs and challenges. What you are about to see is the fruits of many persons time and energy and credit should go where credit is due. The cast has been wonderful and I thank them from the bottom of my heart for putting their all into this project and their trust in such an eccentric individual as myself. My stage manager, producer, and music director have my eternal gratitude for their unending support. Without all these individuals, and the support of Chaminade's Department of Performing Arts, you would not be about to see this amazing piece of work. And thank you, random audience member. For coming to this show. And of course, reading these notes. S.D.G. |
